Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect?
Your professional mix will include applications of various compression, eq, reverb, delay and panning to your instrumental and vocal tracks. Mixes are usually mixed completely then we rest our ears for a day and come back to it. Before the mix is finalized, we will send you the mix in mp3 format for your review. If any changes are needed, we will make the adjustments and send back the mix. This process repeats until you confirm the mix is complete.
Mastering includes applying high quality limiters, dynamic compression as well as harmonic exciters and stereo imaging to the final mix. Masters are then tested on a pair of high end monitors and numerous sound systems such as an iPod (mp3 player), car stereo, and Laptop speakers, to make sure you are getting the best possible sound on every playback device.
Your files will be delivered to you in a private dropbox folder shared between us. You can choose to delete the files and folder or keep it to transfer material in the future if needed.
What is the turnaround to Mix & Master my material?
Mixing will take 5 – 7 days for single songs and 10 – 15 business days for full albums. Our estimate is determined on your first mix, completion of the mix depends on how many revisions are needed after you review the first mix. Mastering generally takes 1 – 3 days for singles songs and 7 – 10 business days for full albums.Once complete it will then be emailed back to you promptly in your inbox. Keep in mind this excludes weekends and holidays. Turnaround time may be longer depending on our current workload.
How many changes can I make to my mix?
Other online services will charge you even for the smallest of changes, but with FYI there are unlimited revisions. You have a total of 30 days to request as many changes as you like to your mix. After receiving your request, any changes will be made and sent to you within 3 business days.
What’s the difference in pricing?
Our pricing is based on the number of tracks (stems) in the song. The more individual tracks, the more time it will take to balance into a unified sound. By receiving projects via internet, we can minimize overhead expenses and avoid the pitfalls of having to schedule appointments or sessions with our clients.
What is a track limit?
Every song consists of individual tracks (also referred to as ‘stems’): the kick, snare, bass, vocals, etc. When we say “15 track mix” we’re referring to mixing 15 separate tracks within the song. If you need help exporting your tracks, let us know, and we’d be happy to show you.
Can I send you Project Sessions (ProTools, Logic, Cubase, FL Studio, etc.) ?
If you rather send us a project session, we will happily accept Pro Tools and/or Logic files. We do; however, find that there are less compatibility issues if your mix is sent tracked out with each individual wav form separated.
Will you work until I am 100% satisfied?
We believe in keeping our customers happy, so YES!
We will continue to revise your mix / master until you are completely satisfied with the final result. Once you hear your mix or master, if there are things you want to change about it, simply email us with your change request and we will implement those changes and send you another updated mix or master. Simply put, if you’re not satisfied neither are we.
How am I sure it will sound better?
From start to finish, your opinion means everything to us. You will always have input into how your project sounds and we will do everything we can to satisfy your needs.
Why should I master my song?
Mastering is the final step to bring your musical ideas to a competitive standard. It gives your music the professional commercial quality necessary to compete not only nationally, but globally as well. Regardless of which platform your audio is meant for, take full advantage of the media and master your song.
What Will I Receive?
Once your project is completed you will receive both an MP3 and WAV file of your Mixed or Mastered song. At an extra cost, we can send individual stems of your project; however, we WILL NOT send any copies of the file session where we mixed and mastered.

Sending Session Files
How Do I Prepare My Mix?
You can either send us your Pro tools or Logic session.
If you don’t use any of those 2 DAW’s then you will need to export each track as a WAV file from the beginning of the session so that when everything is dropped into our DAW it all lines up correctly.
What’s a Stem?
A stem is a “printed” version of a single instrument. The plugins and processing used on that instrument are “printed” to the track. That way when you open the stem in your DAW, you’ll hear the exact instrument used in the mix without needing any plugins.
Which DAW do you use?
Currently we use 2 DAW’s.
- Pro Tools
- Logic Pro X
This means that if you use one of these DAW’s, you can send your session to us without having to export everything into WAV form.
Do you want Wet or Dry files?
For timing and pitch correction dry files are best. But if you’re certain that you’ve locked in a great sound on your guitars or keyboard, etc.. You can definitely send wet versions of those files.
You can also send Wet AND Dry files in two separate folders. We will use our judgement to determine which we should and shouldn’t use. This is most likely the best option and provides the greatest degree of usability.
Do I remove plugins off of my master bus before exporting?
Yes.
What WAV file settings do I send you?
There are countless debates and blogs in the audio world discussing whether we can actually hear a difference between 44, 48, 96 and 192khz. To keep it simple and the file sizes small, export your tracks between 44.1khz and 48khz.
How many revisions do I get?
Due to the amount of work we receive, there is a 30 day time period for you to request as many revisions as you find necessary. We will work on your song until you are satisfied with it.
Can I have a copy of the session?
Because we use a variety of different plugins and outboard units, this is not possible. Instead, we can “Stem” all of your individual tracks.
Can I reduce my songs track count?
Yes. There are a few things you can do to decrease the amount of tracks you are turning in for your project.
For example:
Comping background vocals: If you have various tracks that sing a backing harmony together, you can comp these into one track. Be advised that we are unable to tune grouped vocals or manipulate them once they have been comped. Only comp background vocals if you’re sure they are how you want them to sound.
